Purpose: Open-label, extension trial of olanzapine maintenance treatment in patients with bipolar disorder.
Study design: Noncomparative.
Follow up: 49 Weeks.
Patients: 113 patients.
Treatment: Olanzapine (mean modal dose 13.9 mg/day).
Results: Significant improvements in the manic and depressive symptoms of patients were observed with olanzapine. Depression was reported as an adverse event in 39% of patients. Mean weight gain was 6.6 kg.
