 Antidepressant-induced switch rates

Title: Clinical features of antidepressant associated manic and hypomanic switches in bipolar disorder.

Purpose: To identify clinical features associated with antidepressant-induced affective switch in patients with bipolar disorder.
Study design: Retrospective chart review.
Follow up: Variable. 
Patients: 169 patients with bipolar I and II disorder.
Treatment: Various, including a variety of antidepressants and mood stabilizers. 
Results: Switching to mania or hypomania occurred in 51% of patients receiving an antidepressant alone and in 17% of patients receiving concomitant therapy with a mood-stabilizer.
