Economic assessment of bipolar therapy

Title: Pharmacotherapy for bipolar depression: an economic assessment.
Reference: Expert Opinion on Investigational Drugs (In press).
Purpose: To review the cost of pharmacotherapy for the treatment of bipolar depression.
Conclusions: The depressive pole of bipolar disorder is associated with the highest economic burden. Preventing depressive episodes with long-term maintenance treatment reduces this burden and associated health risks. The prevention of such episodes is more likely to be achieved with recent evidence-based treatments.
